The Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Wednesday approved contract variation cost for the old Enugu-Onitsha Road, beginning from Okpi Junction, all the way to Udioji down to Anambra border in Enugu State.
According to the Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, the augmentation cost was in the sum of ₦17,050,000,000, which revised the contract to ₦48,996,488,925 with an additional completion time of 42 months.
Beyond this, a fresh contract was awarded for the maintenance of the pavement of the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos which was also approved by FEC in the sum of N6,278,063,585.58 for a period of 24 months.

Fashola noted that it was in consonance with Executive Order 11 signed by President Muhammadu Buhari for the continued maintenance of public infrastructure.
In another report, the Coalition of South East Youth Leaders, (COSEYL) on Thursday, spoke against the continued detention of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu describing it as unlawful.
The apex socio-political youth group in the South East also noted that failure to obey court judgment on releasing Kanu will cause mishaps, unnecessary devastation and drive the country into catastrophe, as strict obedience to court judgments remains the force holding the sovereignty of any nation.
COSEYL’s President General, Goodluck Ibem, disclosed this to The Guardian, condemning the statement credited to the Coalition of Northern Group (CNG) over the continued detention of Kanu. He urged Federal Government to obey rule of law, as well as the order of the Federal Court of Appeal to unconditionally release Kanu from unlawful detention by the Department of State Services (DSS).
