Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu has expressed shock over the death of Mrs. Ifeoma Kalu, the first wife of the Senate Chief Whip, Orji Kalu who passed on in the US on Monday.

The Eastern Updates had earlier reported that Kalu had announced Ifeoma’s death at 61 in a statement on Monday in Abuja.

In a condolence message, Ikpeazu stated that he remembered the deceased as ‘a humane and kind woman”, who was “warm, gentle, and unassuming’.

The message, signed by Mr. Onyebuchi Ememanka, his Chief Press Secretary, urged Kalu and his family ‘to bear the loss with fortitude and the assurance that this is the path all mortals must go.’

Especially, the governor urges Kalu’s family, as Christians, to have assurances in the resurrection of the dead.

‘On behalf of the Government and people of Abia, the governor sends his deepest condolences to the family of the former governor,’ the message added.

Ikpeazu also prayed to God to strengthen the family and for the repose of the deceased’s soul.

In the same vein, President Muhammadu Buhari has sympathised with former Governor of Abia State.

The President, in a release issued on Monday by his Media Adviser, Femi Adesina, commiserated with Senator Kalu and Ifeoma’s family, friends and associates, urging trust in God for comfort and care during the very difficult period of pain and deep reflection.

President Buhari believed the testimonies of the late wife’s fear of God and charity should provide strength for the family, knowing that she lived well, and served the will of the Almighty.

The President prayed for the repose of her soul, and fortitude for the family to bear the loss.
