Angry Mob Beats Suspected Car Thief To Death In Imo

A yet-to-be-identified car thief was beaten to death for stealing a Toyota Camry car along MCC Road Owerri, Imo State capital on Tuesday afternoon. 

The suspect reportedly gained access to a parked car at Zenith Bank, Wetheral Road around 8 am and was given a hot chase after zooming off.

A witness, Cyriacus Eze told DAILY POST that the suspect was apprehended when ran into a traffic gridlock at MCC junction which forced him to abandon the car and continue running on foot.

According to Eze: “HE ran out of luck at MCC junction as he couldn’t move further due to traffic gridlock. He alighted and ran away but the mob chased and caught him. They beat him until he lay lifeless on the road. I hope this serves as a deterrent to other people planning to venture into crime especially as the yuletide season inches closer”.

When contacted, the Police spokesperson for Imo State, Micheal Abattam said he was not aware of the incident and promised to enquire.

In another report, the Divisional Police Officer in-charge of Oguta Police Station and his investigation team have arrested one Nnura Henry Afam, from Umuayata village suspected to be a member of armed gang terrorising communities in Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State.

The police also recovered three automatic Beretta Pistols, Forty-six (46) live GPMG ammunition, Fifty-eight (58) live 7.62mm M240 machine gun ammunition, Seventy-two (72) AK-47 rifle 5.56mm live ammunition, Two (2) empty Pistol magazine, Twenty three (23) live cartridges, Thirty nine (39) .9mm ammunition.

Other items recovered include 16 live LAR rifle ammunition, one damaged pistol magazine, one damaged G3 magazine, two itel handset, one motorcycle, one bicycle, three television sets and his personal picture.
