Group Hails Controversial Nullification Of Ebonyi LG Election

The Barrister Ugochukwu Campaign Organization (BUCO- Obuoha) has come out to openly applaud the nullification of the recently conducted Local Government elections into the 13 Local Government Areas in Ebonyi State by a Federal High Court.

The Director General of BUCO- Obuoha Dr. David Ogbonna who had also given the applause in a statement which he had issued on Friday had described the action of the court as the first step towards cleaning up local governments elections in Nigeria.

In nullifying the election, the court held that the State electoral body – EBSIEC failed to comply with section 150 of Nigeria electoral Act as subsumed by the 2nd Schedule of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (As amended) in the coduct of the polls.

Reacting to the judgment, the Campaign Organisation of Ugochukwu Ezikiel who was the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP candidate in the local government election eventually boycotted by his party said, “DG, Barr. Ugochukwu Ezekiel Campaign Organization believes that this is a wonderful decision by the third arm of Government to correct the erroneous misuse of power by State Governments and the judiciary should be applauded.

“Indeed, Honourable Justice Rilman has shown by this judgment that the judiciary is the last hope of the common man and notwithstanding the current challenges, we trust the decision of our Courts.

“The directorate of Barr. Ugochukwu Campaign Organization ( BUCO- Obuoha) believes that this is a wonderful decision by the third arm of Government to correct the erroneous misuse of power by State Governments and the judiciary should be applauded.

“Indeed, Honourable Justice Rilman has shown by this judgment that the judiciary is the last hope of the common man and notwithstanding the current challenges, we trust the decision of our Courts.

“Ebonyians are aware that what transpired before and on 30th of July 2022 across the State was a mere charade that has no semblance of an election.

“We thank the Plaintiffs for their faith in the party and the PDP leadership in the State ably led by Mr. Tochukwu Okorie. Our party is one undivided family and victory for one is our victory.

“We stand strong with the Party Stakeholders and all members of the party for this remarkable victory. We’re hopeful that more victories will come to the party soon.

“We thank our supporters who have stood with us all along and with the Barr. Ugochukwu ideology of providing credible alternative to Ndi Ohaozara.”t

The Court had also further held that EBSIEC ought to have complied with the procedure used by the Independent National Electoral Comnission, INEC in the conduct of elections in the Federal Capital Territory by using BVAS in compliance with Section 150 of the Electoral Act, 2022.
