Umahi Appoints New Spokesperson, 5th In 7 Years

The Governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi has announced the appointment of Mr. Chooks Oko as his new Special Assistant on Media and Strategy becoming the fifth person to assume the position in the last seven years.

Oko was until the appointment, the Special Assistant to the governor on Strategy.

The appointment was announced in a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Ugbala Kenneth Igwe, on Sunday.

The new media aide replaces the former Special Assistant on Media, Mr Francis Nwaze.

The Eastern Updates reports that Oko’s appointment as spokesman to the Governor was the fifth since Umahi became Governor in 2015.

Ugbala said that the Governor re-designated his former Media Aide as Special Assistant on Documentation.

He said, ‘His Excellency, the Governor of Ebonyi State, Engr. Chief David Nweze Umahi has approved the re-designation of SA to Governor on Media, Deacon Francis Nwaze as SA on documentation while SA to Governor on Strategy, Mr. Chooks Oko is now designated as SA Media and Strategy.

‘In the light of the above, handing and taking-over of duties is wth immediately effect. All concerned are to ensure strict compliance to this directive’, the statement added.

In a related development, Governor Umahi Umahi has

has flayed the alleged social media reports, claiming that he is working against the Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi.

Mr. Umahi’s rebuttal is contained in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Uchenna Orji, and made available to journalists in Abakaliki on Friday.

He described the reports as the handiwork of ‘frustrated political jobbers.’

According to the statement, the governor, instead, deeply appreciates Mr Obi’s courage in his campaign.
