NDLEA Arrests 226 Drug Traffickers In Ebonyi

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Tuesday revealed that it arrested no fewer than 226 suspects in connection with drug trafficking in Ebonyi between January and December, 2021.

Mr Isa Adoro, the NDLEA Commander in the State, explained that the suspects comprise 192 males and 34 females and are within the ages of 13 and 75.

The commander also said that 12,241 tramadol/100mg capsules, amounting to 4.777kg, were seized during the period.

He said that other illicit drugs seized during the period included diazepam, flunitrazepam, pentazocine injection, lignocine, methamphetamine and cannabis sativa.

Adoro assured that the agency’s operatives in the state are committed to fighting drug abuse and trafficking.

Meanwhile, the NDLEAsaid it arrested over 11,340 suspects and convicted 1,111 people for drug related offences across the country in the last 11 months.

Chairman/Chief Executive of the agency, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd), who made the disclosure, yesterday, warned that tougher times await drug barons, cartels and traffickers of illicit drugs in the year 2022.

Addressing the men and officers of the anti-narcotic agency at a meeting with the Directors, Zonal Commanders, State, and Special Area Commanders, on Tuesday Marwa tasked them to make it difficult for drug barons, traffickers and cartels to operate in the country in the new year.

The NDLEA boss, who rewarded four state commands and 25 officers with cash-backed awards for their outstanding performances in the fight against illicit drugs across the country in the outgoing year, commended President Muhammadu Buhari for his constant support and encouragement to the NDLEA and its work.
