Anambra State Governor Willie Obiano has given the sum of ₦1 million to the woman that went viral after she rejected ₦5,000 cash-for-vote bribe during the just-concluded governorship election in the state, which Professor Chukwuma Soludo won.
The woman, a native of Ukwulu in Dunukofia Local Government Area rejected the offer from a political party’s representative, who was escorted by security agents.
In the video that went viral, she insisted that although she did not have ₦5,000, she would never accept any gratification that would make her vote against her conscience.

Commending the woman, the governor-elect, Soludo, said: ‘I summarise the action of the woman of Ukwulu, who rejected ₦5,000 to influence her voting, as a metaphor for the spirit of Anambra.
The woman said ‘I am poor; I don’t have any money in my pocket, but I won’t take ₦5000’.
‘That is the spirit of Anambra and her action is the resilience of the Anambra spirit.’
Soludo had on Friday received his Certificate of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) following his victory in last week’s guber election.
Soludo, a former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), received the Certificate of Return in a ceremony on Friday in Awka.
The Deputy Governor-elect, Onyeka Ibezim, also got his Certificate of Return.
Friday’s event followed an election that saw Soludo sweep to victory in an emphatic style. The Isuofia-born banker won 19 of the 21 local government areas of the state to clinch the position.
The 61-year-old polled 112,229 votes, twice higher than his closest rival, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s Valentine Ozigbo who had 53,807 votes.
‘That Charles Chukwuma Soludo of APGA, having satisfied the requirements of the law is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected,’ the returning officer for the election, Professor Florence Obi, said while pronouncing him as the winner.
