Kinsmen Seeks Justice For Slain Imo Anglican Priest

Kinsmen of a slain Anglican priest, Emeka Merenu, have called on the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, to fish out the killers of the cleric.

One of the priests who does not want to be mentioned narrated to newsmen on Wednesday that the body deceased priest has been deposited at the morgue.

He said, ‘We are just coming back from his parish at IhitteUkwa in Orsu Local Government Area of Imo State. We managed to recover his corpse and we have deposited him in a mortuary.’

Another source told newsmen that the young wife of the killed cleric had been taken to the Orlu diocese headquarters.

The village chairman of Amaorji village, Ekezie Opara, stated that the village was saddened by the development.

The embittered elder said, ‘We are pained by this development. We never expected it. The priest was just 47 years. This is a young man we were hoping will rise to become a bishop one day. He had three children. We urge the Inspector-General of Police to nab the killers of our son.’

The Eastern Updates gathered that Merenu was the priest-in-charge of St Andrew’s Anglican church, IhitteUkwa in Orsu LGA, was killed on Tuesday by fleeing gunmen who burnt down his vehicle.
