COVID-19: Ikpeazu Lauds Resident Doctors

Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu has described health as an important key to achieving all the cardinal pillars and policies of the present administration while praising the resident doctors in the State for their efforts so far in containing the rampaging Covid-19 virus.

Ikpeazu on Tuesday received a delegation of Nigeria Association of Resident Doctors who were on official assignment to the state at Government House, Umuahia, explained that his government has successfully ensured that at least two functional health centres are built in all the electoral wards of the state as a way of taking health care delivery to the grassroots.

The governor, who represented by his Deputy, Rt Hon Ude Oko Chukwu, while lauding doctors and medical workers for their dedication, sacrifice, and inputs in controlling the spread of COVID-19 and other communicable diseases in the state and nation, also condoled them on the loss of some of their members and assured them that their labour of saving lives will not be in vain.

He further disclosed that the government has rebuilt and renovated so many general hospitals in the state, while assuring that everything will be done to ensure that ABSUTH is up and running as it remains one of the health Institutions that gives the State a pride of place.

The State Chief Executive lauded the resident doctors for choosing Abia as venue for their NEC meeting and urged them to use the forum to deliberate on issues that will promote the health of the citizenry, assuring them of Government’s support in achieving the objectives of the Association.

Earlier in his speech, the National President of Nigeria Association of Resident Doctors, Dr Uyilawa Okhuaihesuyi, said they are in the State for their NEC meeting to deliberate on health issues especially on the COVID-19 pandemic which has devastated the world and appealed to the state government to look into the problems confronting ABSUTH, insurance coverage for Doctors, training and retraining of Doctors.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr Joe Osuji, the Deputy Chief of Staff, Office of the Deputy Governor, Sir Don Ubani, Body of Permanent Secretaries and other top Government Officials were present during the visit.
