Security Tightened In Owerri Following Unrest In Omuma

Security has been tightened in Owerri, capital of Imo after gunmen attacked the family house of Governor Hope Uzodimma in Omuma Community in Oru East Local Government Area in the early hours of yesterday.

Eyewitness reports revealed that areas around the State Government House and Correctional Centre, Owerri, one lane of the Okigwe road and Bank road were blocked, leaving one lane for commuters.

The development caused traffic gridlock within the city.

Armed policemen were seen manning Bank road.

Also, the road to the Police Command headquarters and State Government House was reduced to allow a single vehicle per time.

Some Hilux vans loaded with battle-ready soldiers and policemen were seen patrolling major streets.

Detachments of regular and mobile policemen were also seen patrolling with some stationed in strategic positions in the city.

Normal business activities, however, went on smoothly.
