Ex-SSG Flays Divisive Politics In Anambra State

Listen to article

Former Secretary to the Anambra State Government, Mr. Oseloka Obaze, has flayed politics of divisiveness in the state.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chief, who spoke to reporters in Awka yesterday, warned those he called power brokers to stop playing divisive and dangerous politics in Anambra.

Obaze was reacting to the suspension of 12 monarchs by the state government for travelling to Abuja for a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari without taking permission from the state government.

The traditional rulers reportedly supported by billionaire Prince Arthur Eze went to Abuja, allegedly to submit a petition against Governor Willie Obiano to Buhari over the alleged mismanagement of council funds allocated since he (Obiano) came to power.

The state government is reportedly unhappy about their romance with Eze, who has been at loggerheads with Obiano, criticising his administration of the state.

Obaze said: “As a matter of personal policy and principles, I decided after the 2017 governorship election not to comment on the activities of the Anambra State Government, for good or bad, despite being in the opposition. I will stand on that premise.

“However, insofar as it relates to the 2021 governorship electioneering, I must say that all politics is local. Routinely, the rich, mighty and powerful in Anambra State plays a very divisive and dangerous type of helicopter politics. They pull plugs and punches in Abuja, often to their own advantage but inimical to Anambra State’s collective interests. I don’t see Dangote, Adenuga, Adekeye, Otedola, Elumelu and others doing that in their states.”

The ex-diplomat said those wanting to run the state “as their individual fiefdom” should stand for election like American billionaire Mike Bloomberg.

He blamed his defeat in the 2013 and 2017 governorship polls on “technical grounds” and anti party activities by some PDP members.

Obaze said in 2013 he did not have a voter card and that he refused to present a fake one or lied that he possessed one.

The ex-SSG said he had the opportunity to rectify the situation, but claimed the All Progressive Grand Alliance worked against him.

He accused some top PDP leaders in the state of working against him in the 2017 governorship election after conniving with the ruling APGA to rob him of victory.

The former United Nations official could not say whether he would contest the 2021 governorship poll or not, but lamented developments in the state.

Obaze predicted that Obiano’s successor would be faced with a bad situation.
