President Volodymyr Zelensky has “full backing across the United Kingdom” amid the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, Sir Keir Starmer has pledged.

The Prime Minister gave the assurance on Saturday when he received the Ukrainian leader at No. 10 Downing Street in London.

Zelensky told Starmer he was delighted that Ukraine had “such friends” as the UK, saying the continued support gives strength to his country and its citizens.

As a crowd cheered outside his office, Starmer said, “That is the people coming out to demonstrate how much they support you, how much they support Ukraine.”

The Prime Minister added that the people of the United Kingdom stand with Zelensky and Ukraine “for as long as it may take.”

In response, Zelensky expressed gratitude to his host as well as the British people, adding that he saw many of them on his way.

“I want to thank the people of the United Kingdom for such big support from the very beginning of this war,” the Ukrainian leader noted.

Zelensky travelled to London after leaving Washington D.C., where he had a shouting match with President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance during talks on a deal to end the war.

President Zelensky is scheduled to meet King Charles III at the request of the UK government, while Starmer will host a summit of European leaders on Sunday.

The French Presidency said President Emmanuel Macron spoke on Saturday with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, US President Donald Trump, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, European Council President António Costa, and NATO chief Mark Rutte.

According to the presidency, the discussions were part of preparations for a meeting of European leaders on Sunday in London, as well as a special European Union summit on 6 March.

Recall that Trump and Zelensky clashed during a White House meeting on Friday.
