Russia Lauds Trump For Holding Back Against Zelensky

On Friday, Maria Zakharova, the voice of Russia’s Foreign Ministry, marveled at what she called the extraordinary self-discipline of U.S. President Donald Trump for keeping his fists in check during a fiery Oval Office clash with Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelensky.

In a Telegram post, she skewered what she branded as Zelensky’s most audacious falsehood—his claim during the White House showdown that Kyiv stood abandoned and unsupported in 2022, a narrative she dismissed as a brazen twist of history.

“It’s downright astonishing that Trump and Vance didn’t let their hands fly at that lowlife,” she mused, painting the restraint as a near-superhuman feat amid the heated exchange that captivated global onlookers.

Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, who is now deputy head of Russia’s Security Council, called Zelensky an “insolent pig” who had received “a proper slap down in the Oval Office”.

Kirill Dmitriev, the maestro steering Russia’s Direct Investment Fund, dubbed the fiery Trump-Zelensky showdown a “landmark moment,” his words crackling with the weight of history unfolding.

As a key player in Moscow’s diplomatic lineup, Dmitriev helped orchestrate the Russian-U.S. summit in Saudi Arabia on February 18, 2025—the first high-stakes huddle between the two powers since Russia kicked off its Ukraine campaign in 2022, a gathering that reset the geopolitical chessboard.
