A bomb explosion has claimed lives and caused injuries in Zamfara State.

The incident occurred along the Gusau-Dansadau road in Maru Local Government Area of the state.

It was gathered that the explosive device, reportedly planted by bandits, detonated on a busy section of the road.

The attack was directed at travellers and residents in the area.

This was made known on Wednesday by Zagazola Makama, a Lake Chad Basin counterterrorism and insurgency expert, in a post on his X handle.

Makama stated that the incident, the second bomb explosion on the route, signals a dangerous shift in the tactics employed by bandits operating in Zamfara.

He stated that the use of explosives introduces a new level of insecurity in the region.

“Traditionally known for their activities such as kidnapping, cattle rustling, and armed attacks, the use of explosives introduces a new level of insecurity in the region,” the security expert noted.

In another news, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has reported that its precision airstrikes aimed at dismantling bandit networks have led to the elimination of several bandits, including key associates of the notorious bandit leaders Dan-Isuhu and Dogo Sule.

The announcement was made in an official statement by Air Commodore Olusola Akinboyewa, who serves as the Director of Public Relations and Information for the Nigerian Air Force (NAF).

He noted that the Air Component under Operation Fansan Yamma conducted a series of targeted airstrikes in Zamfara State on Friday, November 15, intensifying the military’s offensive against criminal elements.

The air campaign was directed at a large congregation of bandits in Babban Kauye village, situated in the Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State, part of the volatile north-western region.
