110 Suspects In Our Custody, Exhibits Recovered – Abia Police

The Abia State Police Command has revealed that it successfully arrested 110 suspects of various offences, between January and date, out of which 108 were male while three were female.

While parading some of them, the state Commissioner of Police, Kenechukwu Onwumelie who briefed newsmen through the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Maureen Chinaka, said nine rescued children were abducted, 16 pregnant women who attempted child trafficking and kidnapped victims among others.

He revealed that twenty-three locally manufactured shotguns with one barrel, eight locally made shotguns with two barrels, 37 live rounds, two handguns, a toy gun, and a Dane gun were found by the police.

Others included 11 vehicles, four auto rickshaws (popularly known as keke) and nine motorcycles connected with various offences such as kidnapping as well as a recovery of 12 bags of substances suspected to be cannabis sativa (Indian hemp)/ other substances suspected to be illicit hard drugs and 202 pieces of railway sleepers.

Other recovered items, he said, included electric cables, two transformer compressors with damaged blades, two stainless axes, one dagger, one expended cartridge, four knives, seven Toyota vehicle keys, some vandalised cable wires, 11 cutlasses, three torchlights, two spikes, one laptop, one brown handbag, water dispensing cans, two rolls of electric wires, bunches of house/office keys, an ultrasound machine/blood pressure apparatus, three rings, one fire lighter, 24 iron stands of poles containing nuts and four iron cutters.

The police PRO also noted that there was a recovery of 10 phones, four red EFCC jackets, two EFCC ID cards, and four EFCC search warrants as well as one police and one military camouflage bulletproof vest, five shirts of denim police uniform, one ballistic helmet with ‘JTF’ inscriptions, a pair of number plates with the inscription ‘ARAB 01’, one UBA ATM card, bags of liquid substances suspected to be crude oil, nine pillows, 15-bed sheets, 34 foot matches, eight mattresses, one constant energy generator, one 6kg gas cylinder, 11 carpets, 89 curtain rays, one OPL standing fan and eight plastic chairs.

Other exhibits paraded, the CP said, included a bag of charms, carved images, iron mortar, a face mask, a tube of Neo-skin cream, a bathing soap, an empty eyeglass case, a small empty plastic container, one lighter, a DSTV recorder, mp3, small tiger generator, non-serviceable radio, cash sum of N127,000, a screwdriver, a bunch of keys, among others.

Fielding questions from newsmen after the parades, Onwumelie said the command had achieved significant milestones in curtailing incidents of armed robbery, kidnapping, vandalism of government property, child trafficking rape and arson.
