Odumodu’s two villages have borne the brunt of ceaseless attacks for an extended period, resulting in a substantial loss of life and the displacement of many, who sought shelter in neighboring areas.
Emesionwu affirmed the community’s safety and desirability for residents, citing the presence of the Vigilante group, and he pledged to work with his team to eliminate criminal elements from the area.
He also pledged to engage the youth of the community, assuring that no criminals would be permitted to enter the twin villages of Odumodu Umunya from this point onward.
He noted: ‘Our people should return home and stop sleeping in hotels. Our community is now condusive with the presence of the Vigilante group.’
The Divisional Police Officer, Chuks Nwoke, who also addressed the gathering, cautioned members of the Vigilante Service within the vicinity against engaging in actions that could tarnish the reputation of the security organisation. He emphasized the importance of adhering to the legal framework governing community policing.
He went on to caution both the youth and security personnel, highlighting the significance of not engaging in harassment or mistreatment of innocent individuals.
He emphasised the protocol of handing over those apprehended to the police for a comprehensive investigation and subsequent legal proceedings.
He added: ‘Community policing involves giving the police reliable information that will lead to the arrest and prosecution of suspected criminals.’
Innocent Ojike, the Member Representing Oyi Constituency in the State Assembly, talked about the challenges faced by his constituents, who have endured extensive periods of insecurity. He stressed the absolute importance of security, asserting that no significant achievements can be made without it.
Lamenting the situation where residents couldn’t sleep securely in the past, the lawmaker, who also chairs the House Committee on Trade and Commerce, pledged his absolute support for the establishment of the security outfit. He vowed to ensure the safety of the community and its assets.
