Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has issued a directive for vehicles currently parked along the roadside or within the median section of Nkwoegwu Down to Ubakala Junction to be evacuated to Ohiya Motor Park in Umuahia.

The authorities have also given instructions for makeshift shops, shanties, and other unauthorized establishments situated in the impacted regions to vacate the premises before the stipulated deadline.

The governor’s instruction was detailed in an official statement signed by Mr. Ferdinand Ekeoma, his special advisor on media and public relations.

According to the statement: ‘This decision is to enable the government to decongest, clean up, safeguard, and beautify the state capital and its environs while reducing the danger associated with illegal parking of vehicles by the roadside and illegal trading that puts lives at risk. All those affected by this directive have up to Wednesday, August 17, 2023, to comply.’

Furthermore, a strong cautionary message came from the state government, emphasising that any vehicle left parked or being loaded within the designated areas after the said deadline of August 17th will face impoundment, and any shop remaining in those regions after the deadline will be demolished.
