The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council (OYC), yesterday, came hard on Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State over political intrigues playing out in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), saying he killed Igbo presidency ahead of 2023 general elections.
Wike and his aggrieved G-5 governors are currently out of the country where they are expected to take their final stance on the candidate to support for the country’s top political position.
A statement by the National President of the youth wing of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Okwu Nnabuike, described Wike’s movement as one driven by selfish interest.
He stressed that the G-5 governors are likely to choose between Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) and Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), having fallen out of favour with their party’s candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

Okwu, who berated Wike for working against a Nigerian president of Igbo extraction, said: ‘Wike is now playing the ostrich. We want to tell Nigerians not to be deceived by the likes of Wike, who claims to be fighting against injustice in the PDP, whereas he is merely pursuing selfish interests.
‘It is on record that he scuttled the micro-zoning of the PDP presidential ticket to the South-East because he felt he would wangle his way and get the ticket. But having failed to realise his selfish ambition, he turned to shouting for justice and equity.
‘Where was equity when he chased Obi out of PDP? Where was equity when he refused entreaties to back someone from South East for the PDP presidential ticket? Now that he failed to clinch the ticket, he now realises there is equity.’
Meanwhile, Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State has confirmed the death of the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, worldwide, Prof George Obiozor.
The Eastern Updates had exclusively reported that Obidozor died of heart-related disease on Monday.
Confirming the development, the Imo Governor in a statement he personally issued on Wednesday night, said the deceased was a “renowned academic, an exceptional diplomat and statesman and a tenacious patriot, Prof George Obiozor passed on recently after a brief illness.’
He added that, ‘The death of this foremost Igbo leader and former Nigeria’s ambassador to the United States and the State of Israel, is a big loss to Imo State, the South East, and entire Nigeria.
‘I have no doubt that both Nigeria and the international community will miss his profound intellectual contributions and wise counsel on national and global issues’.
According to the Governor, burial arrangements would be announced in due course by the family of the deceased.
