One Clement Isiorji has lost his parcel of inherited land as a penalty for allegedly stealing a phone belonging to one Chief Kingsley Orjiako in Owerri, Imo State.

NAN gathered on Wednesday that Isiorji, who hails from Ihiala in the Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State, demanded ₦20,000 in return for the phone when the owner called the line.

“He was given the money only to demand another ₦40,000 from the phone owner, which he instructed should be paid into his private bank account. The third time, he demanded another N20,000, which was given to him through the same method,” a source stated.

Not comfortable with his action, Isiorji’s wife reportedly got the number of the victim and called him. She directed the victim to tell her husband that he would buy him a mini bus so as to get him to release the phone.

Orjiako later called the suspect and told him that he would buy a mini bus for him if he returned the phone, which he said had sensitive information on it.

It was gathered that Isiorji hurriedly got to the agreed meeting point with the expectation that he would be given a cheque for the purchase of the bus and was promptly apprehended by the victim policemen.

It was learnt that when his accomplices were contacted by the police to come and secure his release on bail, they failed to show up.

Isiorji’s family members were reportedly contacted for the same purpose prior to the matter being charged.

It was gathered that the family had to sell the ancestral plot of land inherited by the suspect to settle the victim.

When contacted on the telephone, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Orlando Ikeokwu, said he was not aware of the matter.
