Yuletide: Abia Govt Asks Criminals To Leave State

The Government of Abia State has assured the residents of the state of its commitment towards ensuring of a peaceful Yuletide season in the state.

The Special Adviser on Security Matter to the Governor of Abia State, Naval Commander Macdonald Ubah (rtd), gave the assurance on Friday, noting that the state government has put measures in place to ensure the security of lives and property.

Ubah spoke while interacting with journalists in Umuahia, the Abia State capital.

He said, “Governor Alex Otti has given marching orders that he wants this state totally safe in this coming Yuletide.

“If you notice, a lot of people have indicated interest in coming back for this year’s Christmas and New Year celebrations.

As you know, the government flagged off Operation Crush and other security task forces led by officers of the Nigeria police, Army, Navy, Civil Defence Corps, Immigration, the Abia Vigilante Service, etc, who are empowered to tackle any acts of criminality in Abia areas.

‘Their operations will continue till after the Yuletide.

‘These are measures put in place to make sure that there’s peace in the state.’

In another report, butchers in Umuahia, Abia State capital have staged a peaceful protest over alleged threat by certain individuals to evict them from the land allegedly given to them by Government as far back as 1994.

In order to stop the purported eviction plot, which they claimed was being planned by a number of influential people, including a senior government official, they requested Governor Alex Otti’s intervention.

The land is located in Mgbarakuma/Amuzu in Ubakala, Umuahia South Local Government Area, according to Comrade Ngozi Williams, Chairman of the Umuahia Butchers Association, who was speaking to reporters during the protest in front of Abia Shopping Mall.
