February 25 saw Hon. Chimaobi Atu’s victory in the National Assembly election as he contested under the banner of the Labour Party. His win signified a notable defeat for Hon. Offor Chukwuegbo, the incumbent representative of the constituency who had enjoyed three terms and aimed for a fourth. However, Atu’s candidacy prevailed, securing him the people’s mandate.
During the inauguration thanksgiving and civic reception hosted at Ugwuaji in Enugu South Local Government Area of Enugu State on Sunday, Hon. Chimaobi Atu expressed his gratitude by dedicating his electoral victory to Mr. Peter Gregory Obi. The event witnessed the presence of eminent personalities, including Prof Bath Nnaji, former Minister for Power and CEO of Geometric Power Limited; Hon. Nnoli Nnaji, former Chairman of the Representatives Committee on Aviation; Senator Kelvin Chukwu; Atu’s fellow House of Representatives members; state House of Assembly representatives; respected traditional and religious leaders; as well as passionate supporters of the Obident movement, all joining in the celebration.
At the event, Hon. Chimaobi Atu expressed his belief that the participation of Peter Obi in the 2023 election had undeniably transformed the political landscape in an unprecedented manner. He acknowledged the profound impact of Obi’s involvement and vowed to uphold Obi’s ideology and leadership style as his political template going forward. His words: ‘My colleagues and I at the National Assembly will remain very grateful to you,’ Atu told Obi.
In the 10th Assembly, the representative, Hon. Chimaobi Atu, revealed his top priority on his legislative agenda, which is to provide his constituents with quality representation.
He assured his constituents that he would collaborate closely with the new leadership of the House to achieve his vision of delivering excellent and distinguished representation.
‘My colleagues in the Labour Party and I are willing to engage in a bipartisan process that will serve our people and the entire country. You will recall that during the first plenary of the 10th National Assembly, I moved a motion on the need to urgently address the growing threat of gully erosion at the New market/Ugwuonyeama/9th mile road. That was the first motion moved by a new lawmaker in the 10th Assembly. The speaker graciously appointed me a member of the House Ad-hoc committee on legislative agenda, this tells you that we mean serious business,’ Atu added.
Hon. Chimaobi Atu also highlighted his plans to establish a Tech Hub in Enugu South Local Government Area. Concurrently, discussions are taking place with the federal ministry of Communications and Digital Economy to determine the ideal location for a second Tech Hub in Enugu North Local Government Area. The primary objective is to enhance the proficiency of young individuals in artificial intelligence, coding, web design, and social media marketing.
‘Agriculture is one critical sector that will gulp my attention in the house; as the world gradually moves away from fossil fuel, agriculture and technology must be given all the backing they deserve. Education is also my top priority, because without education, this nation is doomed; I will also perform oversight functions to ensure quality and time delivery of budgeted infrastructure in our constituency,’ Atu further promised.
Atu expressed his commitment to working tirelessly towards the betterment of his constituency and ensuring that the concerns and needs of his constituents are effectively addressed at the legislative level.
