Nwifuru Orders Immediate Freezing Of Ebonyi Govt’s Accounts

The Governor of Ebonyi State, Rt. Hon. Francis Nwifuru has ordered that all banks operating State government’s accounts domiciled with them to freeze all the accounts with immediate effect. 

Nwifuru gave the order in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Dr. Monday Uzor, on Tuesday, a copy of which was sent to The Eastern Updates on Tuesday.

According to the statement, the order takes effect from Tuesday, May 30, 2023.

It read in part; ‘His Excellency, the Governor of Ebonyi State, Rt. Hon Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has directed the immediate freezing of all State government accounts domiciled in various banks with effect from, Tuesday, 30th May 2023.

‘Consequently the Governor directs the Bank managers of all the banks that operate government accounts to immediately comply by ensuring that no payment is made from any government account till further notice,’ he stated.

Earlier, less than 24 hours after his inauguration, Governor Nwifuru also announced the appointment of Dr. Monday Uzor as his Chief Press Secretary, (CPS)

Uzor was before his appointment, the Press Secretary to the immediate-past deputy governor of the State, Dr. Kelechi Igwe.

Similarly, Abia State Governor, Alex Otti has also approved the appointments of Prof. Kenneth Kalu as the Secretary to the State Government as well as Caleb Ajagba as his Chief of Staff.

The governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, in a statement on Tuesday, unveiled six other appointees, saying the appointments took immediate effect.
