The Governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi has expressed worry over the upsurge of political violence in the State describing it as unfortunate.
Umahi made this reservation at the State International Airport Onueke /near Abakaliki on Sunday, while fielding questions from newsmen.
He warned that anyone indicted in this ugly trend among any of the political parties would be dealt with decisively.
According to him, ‘I have just addressed security Chiefs, one certain thing, desperation is the problem, it drives the minds of those that are desperate ‘
‘There is no way a Governor will accept violence in his state, I have discharged my callings and I know I am loved by Ebonyi people’

‘This desperation is what is leading to attacks, if an APC person is involved, in some cases, I direct security agencies to arrest them’
On the quest for Igbo Presidency, Umahi stated that he believed in it stating ‘that was why I contested for Presidential Primary of the APC in fulfillment of that demand’
‘Why didn’t the Igbos vote for me, why did I not get one vote when I contested, only Ebonyi people voted for me, is it that am not qualified, just because am coming from Ebonyi State, are we second-class citizens from Ebonyi’
‘Ebonyi man is contesting the election, Ebonyi man is nobody, somebody from the south-east is contesting, then it becomes Igbo project, we have to struggle to liberate our selves from the oppression of our brothers and sisters’
‘No party developed Ebonyi State and no party is going to develop Ebonyi State, only Ebonyi people will develop it, Ebonyi comes first before any other thing’
On the issue of prevailing division ravaging the All Progressive Congress (APC) at the National Level, the State Chief Executive reiterated that it would be resolved since the party was a big family
Speaking against the backdrop of the threat of non-State actors to disrupt the elections in the south-east States, Umahi restated that the governors were talking to the people to ignore the threat.
‘This person lives among us, they live with the people, the villagers and leaders must rise so that there will be elections’
‘I fought against the philosophy of IPOB, people should blame themselves, a lot of our religious leaders were preaching, thinking that they were going to populate the number of their congregation’s
‘I warned that these people get into drugs, they get into idolatry, God is against idolatry, you see them fed with the live tortoise, charms, when did the Igbo man start to live in the forest” he queried?
‘Even when the Federal High Court gave judgment against Ebubeagu, IPOB celebrated it, I saw it on Social Media, it means that it is working with the opposition’
‘we have established the new Neighbourhood Vigilantes Group, established in accordance with that of Anambra State, if you attack it, go and attack that of Anambra State’
On the payment of gratuity to civil servants, Umahi emphasised that his administration has been proactive on issues concerning workers in the State.
