The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has expelled the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, its suspended National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, and former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose.
Their expulsion was announced on Saturday at the party’s national convention in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The Eastern Updates reports that the convention is taking place on November 15 and 16.
At least two governors elected under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who were previously accused of aligning with the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, are conspicuously absent from the ongoing PDP convention in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The governors are Ademola Adeleke of Osun and Agbu Kefas of Taraba State.
However, governors Ahmadu Fintri of Adamawa State, Caleb Muftwang of Plateau State, Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State, and the host, Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, are currently present.
It was reported that Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara may also boycott the convention due to his ties with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike-led faction of the party.
The Eastern Updates reports that despite conflicting court orders seeking to halt the exercise, the convention has already commenced.
While the Wike-led faction opposed the convention, the Umar Damagum-led faction of the party vowed to proceed with the elective exercise.
The Osun and Taraba states governors had previously been accused of attempting to defect to the ruling party, although the alleged moves have been denied on multiple occasions.
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has dissolved its structures in Imo, Abia, Enugu, Akwa Ibom and Rivers states.
The Eastern Updates reports that Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state moved the motion for the dissolution at the PDP national convention in Ibadan, the state capital, to validate the executives elected through congresses conducted across the country.
According to the governor, congresses held between 2024 and 2025 produced officers at the ward, LG, state and zonal levels, including national ex-officio members.
