Abia State: Otti Reassures Corps Members Of Full Support

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has affirmed government backing for the 1337 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members who underwent the 2024 batch “A” stream 1 orientation course in the state, promising support during their primary assignments.

Otti handed down this assurance Wednesday at the NYSC state orientation camp at Umunna in Bende LGA of Abia State on the occasion of their terminal parade and closing ceremony of the orientation course, stating, “I want to assure you of the Abia State government’s unwavering support and commitment to your welfare and security throughout your service year. We will do everything in our powers to ensure that you have a safe and productive experience. Your well-being is our priority”.

The governor who was represented by the Commissioner Ministry of Sports and Youth Development, Sir. Nwaobilor Ananaba further reminded them, “You are also ambassadors of Abia State and the state of your origin. You have been exposed to the ideals of the NYSC and have familiarized yourselves to some extent with the state and the good people of the State, I urge you to embrace these ideals and ensure you internalize them, even as you step out of the orientation camp.

“Embrace the virtue of selfless service and humility; which has been adopted as the motto of the NYSC for a reason. The business of nation-building and integration requires selflessness, sacrifice, and humility. Therefore, let these virtues be your watchword throughout the service year.

“Be diplomatic in your dealings with the people, be courteous and respectful at all times. Do not cast aspersions on their way of life but rather respect and embrace their diversity. Embrace the challenges that lie ahead with enthusiasm and resilience. Your service year is an opportunity to make positive impacts on the communities where you will be posted. Be proactive, innovative, and diligent in your assignments”.

Earlier, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs. Dick-Iruenabere Ufuoma noted, “They came, saw, and have overcome all challenges and are ready to be ushered into the other phases of the service year. They have been exposed to various lectures on Skills Acquisition, leadership training, and other capacity-building programmes, which is meant to motivate as well as challenge them towards the demands of national development.

“Throughout the orientation course, these Corps Members exhibited high level of discipline, patriotism, and an unparalled sense of humility which made the exercise both successful and enjoyable”.

She advised the corps members, “Please do not loose sight of the fact that you are ambassadors of the NYSC scheme. Therefore, you must conduct yourselves in a manner that will not tarnish the good image of the scheme which your predecessors toiled to uphold”.

The Chairman NYSC State Governing Board was represented by Engr. Chibuzor Esihe, the Chief Scheduler to the Governor, while the Commander 14 Brigade Nigerian Army, Ohafia was represented by Lt. Col. I. O. Kolawole, ACP Ajayi O Kayode represented the Commissioner of Police and Mr Ken Nnam represented the State Director, DSS.
