Mbah’s Move To Leave PDP Commendable, Says Obiechina

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alex Chukwuemeka Obiechina, has praised Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, for his reported plan to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling APC, describing the move as “a demonstration of uncommon political courage and foresight.”

Speaking with journalists on Monday in Abuja, Obiechina said Mbah’s decision underscores his progressive ideals and determination to secure a better political future for Enugu State.

According to him, the governor’s “Tomorrow is Here” mantra has translated into tangible results across infrastructure, governance, and social development — achievements he believes already assure Mbah of a second term in office.

“I am personally amazed by the way this young man has brought zeal, excellence, courage, and foresightedness into the governance and politics of Enugu State,” Obiechina said. “Our state had been stagnated for 26 years by the crass impunity, indiscipline, and resistance to change which the PDP represented. His decision to join us in the APC shows that he cares for tomorrow more than today.”

The APC stalwart, who was once the PDP governorship candidate in Enugu State in 2011, recalled how he was allegedly sidelined through the party’s internal impunity, describing Mbah’s anticipated defection as “a liberation from years of political decadence.”

“There is no doubt that the PDP is reaping the consequences of its many political sins — corruption, impunity, and bad politics,” he stated. “I am elated that the governor of my home state did not waste another minute in that assembly before joining the APC.”

Obiechina further accused the PDP of marginalising the South East region and consistently denying it the opportunity to produce the party’s presidential candidate.

“Apart from denying the South East the chance to fly the presidential flag in 1999, 2003, and 2023, the PDP did not even find it morally right to give Mbah, as the only PDP governor from the zone, a voice in its National Working Committee,” he lamented.

He commended Mbah for “sweeping away the remnants of PDP’s indignity in the South East” and urged Enugu citizens to support the governor’s “bold political realignment.”

“After Tuesday, October 13, Enugu people will begin to assert their new-found independence from the enclave of political wickedness,” Obiechina declared.
