The Kano State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has ramped up its efforts against drug-related crimes, carrying out extensive raids in well-known drug hubs across the city in a bid to curb illicit activities.

On January 30, the NDLEA’s Kano State Command launched a targeted operation against drug trafficking and abuse, focusing on notorious hotspots such as Fagge, Kwarin Kaya, Kofar Wambai, and Kofar Mata. The crackdown led to the arrest of 18 suspects and the seizure of substantial quantities of illegal drugs.

Addressing the latest crackdown, NDLEA Public Relations Officer Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari reaffirmed the agency’s unwavering commitment to its mission of tackling drug-related crimes and ensuring a safer society

“This operation is part of our ongoing efforts to rid Kano of drug-related crimes. We stormed these identified hotspots and successfully apprehended suspects in possession of illicit substances, including Cannabis Sativa and Rubber Solution,” he stated

In addition to drug seizures, Maigatari, an Assistant Superintendent of Narcotics (ASN), confirmed that officers recovered makeshift deadly weapons, with Kwarin Kaya standing out as a flashpoint where some individuals sought to deter law enforcement.

“The raid at Kwarin Kaya was particularly tense as some individuals tried to threaten our operatives from a distance. However, our officers remained resolute and ensured the operation proceeded without any incident,” Maigatari added.

The NDLEA State Commander, AI Ahmad, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to tackling drug-related offenses in Kano.

“We will continue to dismantle drug syndicates and ensure that those involved in drug trafficking and abuse face the full wrath of the law. The NDLEA is dedicated to securing our communities and making Kano a drug-free state,” Ahmad emphasized.

He assured that all arrested suspects would be thoroughly investigated and prosecuted according to the law.
