Barcelona’s Yamal Sidelined 3-4 Weeks Due To Ankle Injury

The promising Barcelona winger, Lamine Yamal, is set to be sidelined for a period of three to four weeks following a right ankle injury sustained in the team’s 1-0 defeat to Leganes on Sunday, leaving a noticeable gap in the squad.

“Tests carried out this morning revealed a grade 1 injury to a ligament in the ankle,” Barcelona said in a statement on Monday.

With an estimated recovery time of up to four weeks, Yamal will be absent from Barcelona’s last fixture of the year against Atletico Madrid on Saturday, marking the end of his 2023 campaign.

Barcelona will meet Barbastro, a fourth-tier side, in the Copa del Rey round of 32 on January 4, then head to Jeddah to take part in the four-team Spanish Super Cup, where the battle for the crown intensifies.

After hurting his ankle in a first-half challenge against Leganes, 17-year-old Yamal carried on despite the pain, only stepping off the field in the 75th minute when he was substituted.

Barcelona, though still atop La Liga, have managed only a single win in their last six games, a form that has seen Atletico draw level on points, with the advantage of one fewer match played.

Real Madrid are a point adrift of the leading duo and also have a game in hand on Barcelona.
