Barcelona Secures Fresh Kit Partnership With Nike

Listen to article

Barcelona revealed on Saturday that they have secured a new kit deal with American sportswear giant Nike, a partnership valued at up to 1.7 billion euros ($1.82 billion) through to 2038, according to reports from Spain.

Having been behind Barcelona’s kits and official merchandise since 1998, Nike’s existing partnership was originally slated to end in 2028. This new deal, however, marks a significant extension to that long-standing collaboration.

“Barcelona and Nike, two leading brands in the sports industry, are pleased to announce a new start with a multi-year partnership agreement, effective from this season,” said the Catalan giants in a statement.

Barcelona did not reveal the length of the new deal or the finances behind it.

While Barcelona initially sought to end their longstanding deal with Nike earlier this year, their attempt was blocked by a Spanish commercial law court in July, ensuring the continuation of the partnership until new negotiations could be concluded, ultimately leading to the renewed agreement.

To combat their ongoing financial crisis, Barcelona made a strategic decision in 2022 to sell 25 percent of their television rights for the next 25 years to Sixth Street, a US private equity firm, hoping the deal would provide a financial lifeline during tough times.
