The National Assembly Service Commission, NASC, has approved the appointment of Mr Andrew Ogbonnaya Nwoba as the Clerk of the Senate.
The Commission, according to a statement signed by its Deputy Director of Information, Emmanuel Anyigor on behalf of the Executive Chairman, approved the appointment, which takes effect from 11th December, 2024, at its meeting of 4th December, 2024.
The statement reads: “Before this appointment, Nwoba was the Secretary of the Directorate of Legislative Budget and Planning.

“The Commission further endorsed the elevation of other key officers of the National Assembly bureaucracy. Mr Emmanuel Oda was appointed Deputy Clerk (Administration), Senate while Vivien N. Njemanze was appointed Deputy Clerk (Administration), House of Representatives.
“Also, Dr. Obasi D. Ukoha is now the Secretary of the Directorate of Legislative Budget and Planning.
“On the other hand, Mr. Rawlings Agada was deployed from his former position of Deputy Clerk (Administration), Senate to Deputy Clerk (Legislative), Senate while Florence Kehinde A. was deployed from her former position as Deputy Clerk (Administration), House of Representatives to Deputy Clerk (Legislative), House of Representatives.
“Meanwhile, the Commission had earlier approved the appointment of Ogundayo Mofoluwake Olufunmilayo as Secretary of the Directorate of Special Duties; Alkali Umar Abubakar as the Secretary of the Directorate of Human Resource & Staff Development and Essien Eyo Essien as Secretary of the Directorate of Zonal Liaison Offices.”
In other news, the Senate announced the formation of a committee charged with reviewing the highly debated Tax Reform Bills that have stirred controversy in the National Assembly. The decision comes as lawmakers recognize the need for a more in-depth analysis of the proposed reforms, which have sparked intense discussions over their potential effects on various sectors of society.
The committee’s work is expected to influence the trajectory of these bills as they continue to make their way through the legislative process.
Senator Abba Moro, the Minority Leader from Benue South, will guide the committee in a crucial session with the Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, as they work to resolve outstanding ambiguities in the Tax Reform Bills. This discussion is expected to be a key step in refining the bills, after which the committee will report back to the Senate ahead of the anticipated public hearing, ensuring a more informed and well-rounded debate.
