On Thursday evening, gunmen launched a bloody attack at Quarry Camp in Akamkpa Local Government Area of Cross River, killing a Police Inspector and abducting two Chinese nationals.
The assailants, who struck with ruthless precision, left behind a trail of chaos, and their motives remain unclear. This deadly operation has sent shockwaves through the region, as authorities scramble to track down the perpetrators and secure the release of the kidnapped victims.
SP Nelson Okpabi, the Police Public Relations Officer for Zone 6, confirmed the violent incident in a statement on Friday. The statement, made available to journalists in Calabar, provided clarity on the attack, which led to the death of a Police Inspector and the kidnapping of two Chinese nationals.
Okpabi went on to state that, in addition to the two Chinese nationals, a Nigerian was also abducted by the gunmen during the raid, intensifying the gravity of the situation.
According to the statement, the armed men, who allegedly wore military camouflage, also made away with the AK-47 of the killed officer.

It added that the hoodlums gained entrance into the quarry “after a worker accidentally allowed a security breach at the gate”.
According to Okpabi, the AIG of the zone, Jonathan Towuru, has initiated a full-scale search for the gunmen responsible, emphasizing that they will not escape punishment for their crimes.
“The Police hereby appealed to the people to be on the lookout and provide any useful information that will lead to the arrest of the perpetrators,” he stated.
