Imo Market Explosion Claims Two Lives, Several Injured

On Tuesday, Imo State witnessed a sharp intensification in the recent spate of violence, as an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated at Orlu International Market, killing two people and injuring multiple others. The attack adds a disturbing dimension to the pattern of insecurity that has unsettled the state in recent months.

The blast unleashed immediate turmoil, as shoppers, caught off-guard, raced to escape. Amid the confusion, many sustained injuries, highlighting the terror and disorder that took hold of the market in the wake of the explosion.

A witness who spoke to newsmen said: “We were at the market when we heard an explosion. There was confusion everywhere as people ran for their lives. Some persons were killed in the explosion.”

Confirming the casualties, Imo State Police spokesman Henry Okoye announced that the blast claimed two lives, marking another tragic development in the state’s recent series of violent incidents.

“It was an IED that exploded,” he said. “The Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, has deployed Anti-Bomb operatives to the scene.

“Two persons who incidentally were the hoodlums were killed in the process of setting up an IED and in the process, it exploded.”

Henry Okoye, the spokesperson for the Imo Police, asked residents to remain calm and vigilant, announcing that police units had been deployed to the area. “No cause for alarm,” he stated, while urging locals to report any suspicious behavior they observe.
