In the midst of last Thursday’s turbulent fuel price hike protest in Ilorin, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps took decisive action, arresting seven suspects believed to be instigators of the violence that broke out among commercial vehicle operators in Kwara State‘s capital.

Ayoola Michael, the NSCDC’s state spokesman, disclosed in a statement on Saturday that the suspects are accused of engaging in violent and unlawful behavior during the protest, which warranted their arrest to maintain public safety.

He stated, “On Thursday, September 5th 2024, one Olusegun Taiwo (F) of Sango area of Ilorin reported a case of criminal conspiracy and theft at the station office of the NSCDC Kwara State Command. She stated that while on her way to her office on a motorcycle, she was attacked by a group of youths, suspected to be hoodlums, who forcefully took her bag, phones, and other valuables.

“After a thorough investigation, it was discovered that the suspects are part of the group of hoodlums responsible for terrorising and causing public unrest in Ilorin, particularly the Sango area.

It was reported that the protest had been hijacked by miscreants, who took advantage of the chaos to steal personal property, including handbags, mobile phones, and other precious belongings, resulting in heightened tensions throughout the Ilorin metropolitan area.
