Listen to article

Top brass of the Nigeria Labor Congress, led by President Joe Ajaero, are flocking to the organization’s headquarters for a high-stakes National Executive Council meeting. The emergency convening signals a critical moment for the labor union, as key leaders prepare to tackle pressing matters.

The emergency meeting takes place against the backdrop of a dramatic turn of events, as Nigeria Labour Congress President Joe Ajaero faces a police summons to answer questions about his alleged involvement in terrorism financing, treasonable felony, and cybercrime. This sudden scrutiny has set off alarm bells within the labor union.

The police summons has set a tight deadline, requiring President Joe Ajaero to report for questioning by 10:00 am today, leaving the Nigeria Labour Congress leadership with little time to strategize before the emergency meeting.

According to sources, the Nigerian Police Force’s invitation was formalized in a letter dated August 19, 2024, bearing the signature of ACP Adamu Muazu, who acted on behalf of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Intelligence Response Team, setting the wheels in motion for President Joe Ajaero’s questioning.

According to sources, the police invitation came with a clear ultimatum: comply with the summons or face the consequences of a warrant of arrest, leaving President Joe Ajaero with a difficult decision to make.

The letter reads: “This office is investigating a case of Criminal Conspiracy, Terrorism Financing, Treasonable Felony, Subversion, and Cybercrime in which you have been implicated.

“Be informed that if you fail to honour this letter, this office will have no choice but to issue a warrant for your arrest.”
