The kidnapping of Commissioner Patrick Aghamba, the Anambra State official responsible for youth development, and his wife has sent tension through the community.
The incident highlights the risks faced by public figures and their families, and the need for increased vigilance to ensure their safety.
Tragically, an aide to Commissioner Patrick Aghamba, identified as Kpajie ABK Offiah, a young man from Onitsha and a dedicated member of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), was fatally shot by the kidnappers during the incident. Offiah was traveling with the commissioner and his wife when the kidnapping occurred.
The victims were reportedly on their way to Abuja to join in the celebrations of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s daughter’s wedding, scheduled for Saturday, August 17th, when they were kidnapped at the Kogi axis of the route. Commissioner Aghamba, his wife, and their aide were said to be part of the wedding party.

In a statement, Christian Aburime, Press Secretary to Governor Soludo, confirmed the kidnapping incident and noted that the government is still in the process of determining the exact location where it took place.
The government is looking into reports suggesting both Kogi State and Ubiaja, Edo State, as possible locations, and will provide updates once more information becomes available.
