An Air Force cadet whose name has been given as Emmanuel Chidiebere Onyeomereneche has reportedly died in a swimming pool tragedy yesterday.
He died in the swimming pool of Damgrete Hotel in Umuahia, the Abia State capital.
A source who spoke with The Eastern Updates on the condition of anonymity on Friday said the deceased went to the facility to swim at a time when the pool was undergoing renovation.
However, it’s unclear if the victim knew about the ongoing repair project before jumping into the swimming pool.
His body was later recovered by men of the Abia State Fire Service and later confirmed dead at the Federal Medical Centre Umuahia.
He was rescued with his swimming trunks, indicating that he apparently had prepared to swim before the unfortunate incident happened.

He was said to have disappeared from the pool at about 6:37 pm on Tuesday but was recovered around 9:58 pm.
The swimming pool was said to be in a bad shape, making the rescue effort difficult.
According to reports, there was equally no divers to assist in the rescue effort till the arrival of men of the state fire service.
The Army Public Relations Officer of 14 Brigade, Ohafia, Lt. Innocent Omale confirmed the incident.
According to him, the late Onyeomereneche was said to be hanging out with his friends when he suddenly decided to jump into the swimming pool.
As at the time of this report, investigation is still ongoing on the circumstances surrounding the death of the cadet.
In another report, following massive backlash, veteran Nollywood actor, Jerry Amilo, has tendered an apology to his fans and everyone who was disappointed by his recent post where he shared the corpse of his colleague, Junior Pope.
Jerry Amilo, had taken to social media to post the corpse of the late Junior Pope. The lifeless body of the actor was seen in the video lying in the hospital.
His action didn’t sit well with fans who slammed him for being insensitive.
Following all of the backlash, Amilo has now tendered an apology.
