3 ABSU Medical Students Die In Accident After Induction

No fewer than three students of Medicine and Surgery who were schooling at the Abia State University, Uturu, have reportedly died in a crash in the Okigwe axis of the Enugu-Umuahia Expressway.

The Eastern Updates reliably gathered that the medical students who on their way back to Aba from the school’s induction when the tragic incident occurred on yesterday evening.

Confirming the incident, the Abia State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Fredrick Ogiden, said officers of the corps arrived at the scene shortly after the accident, which he said involved an ash-coloured Toyota Camry.

However, an unconfirmed report claimed that some other persons were injured in the crash.

In a video circulating online, officers of the FRSC were seen at the scene of the incident while another video showed two injured persons and the corpse of a female victim in a hospital.

In another report, the Abia State Government confirmed on Monday the death of an Abia State University student during a cult clash over the weekend.

Briefing newsmen on Monday, after the week’s State Executive Council meeting chaired by the state governor, Alex Otti, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Okey Kanu, said, “It has come to the notice of the state government about skirmishes in Abia State University, Uturu, between student groups where a student lost his life.

“Some remedial actions have been taken to return normalcy (in the institution). The state government has dispatched some security agencies to Abia State University Uturu.”

He advised students to refrain from violence and face their studies.

Reports have it that tensions are high at the school following a renewed outbreak of violence between two rival cult groups, which left a 400-level student dead.
