Tinubu Okays Upgrade Of Enugu Dental College To University

President Bola Tinubu has given the approval for the conversion of the Federal College of Dental Technology and Therapy, Enugu, to a full-fledged University of Allied Health Sciences, The Eastern Updates reports. 

According to a statement signed by the President’s media aide, Ajuri Ngelale, the conversion is a part of Tinubu’s dedicated efforts to build robust human resources for the health and social welfare sector.

The Eastern Updates gathered that with this approval, the Federal College of Dental Technology and Therapy in Enugu will now be known as the Federal University of Allied Health Sciences, Enugu, and will be domiciled under the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare.

“This presidential directive comes at a time when President Tinubu, who doubles as the African Union (AU) Champion for Human Resources for Health, is set to train 120,000 frontline health workers nationwide within 16 months; to double the number of primary health facilities in local communities across all local government areas of the federation from 8,800 presently to over 17,000 over the next three years, and is doubling the number of health personnel graduating from accredited nursing and midwifery institutions over the next three years in order to meet the aspirations of Nigerians for accessible, affordable, and quality healthcare services across the nation,” the statement concludes.

In another report, the Police Command in Enugu State have confirmed the rescue of a security man attached to the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH) Ituku Ozalla, who was reportedly kidnapped on Tuesday with a staff nurse.

This is contained in a statement issued by the command on Thursday, which also mentioned that a manhunt to arrest the perpetrators and rescue the staff nurse had been launched.

The Eastern Updates reports that gunmen believed to be kidnappers reportedly invaded the federal hospital on Tuesday and allegedly abducted a female staff and a security man.

In a video that had gone viral in the state, an SUV allegedly belonging to the abducted female nurse was seen abandoned on the road riddled with bullets.
