At the forefront of the effort, Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi underscores his leadership in spearheading the fight for the All Progressives Congress (APC) victory in the Ebonyi South Senatorial District’s February 3 by-election.

On Tuesday, Mr. Nwifuru officially announced his candidacy at Afikpo Local Government Area (LGA) during the council’s rally for the upcoming election.

The governor, a representative of Ebonyi North Senatorial District, asserted that he remains fearless, harboring no anxieties about the ultimate outcome of the election.

“The task is not too difficult as far as I am concerned, so tell our opponents that we are ready to match all their efforts.

“To our candidate, Prof. Anthony Ani, your victory is sacrosanct because God has ordained you.

“You were not a politician until recently. You were never in the race, and even I, who made you my candidate, never thought about you,” he said.

He implored the residents of Afikpo and all citizens within the district to rally behind the APC candidate, ensuring a resounding victory at the polls.

“He has no political structure except us, and we urge him to remember those who worked for his success when he gets to the Senate.

“Any LGA development centre coordinator who delivers his area magnificently will definitely get any position he wants from us,” he said.

The seat became vacant after its erstwhile occupant, David Umahi, resigned to assume office as the Minister of Works.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio officially declared the vacancy of the seat, among others, prompting the Independent National Electoral Commission to schedule elections for February 3, 2024.

Patricia Obila, the state deputy governor and native of the council, expressed gratitude to the governor for his attendance, assuring that the stakeholders are committed to securing victory for the APC candidate.

The state chairman of the APC, Stanley Okoro-Emegha, assured the governor that the electorate has been mobilized, ensuring total victory for the party.

The other councils in the district, apart from Afikpo, include Edda, Ohaozara, Onicha and Ivo.
