The Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti has assured Abia women of the support of his government to ensure that their welfare is well taken care of in the state.
Governor Otti gave this assurance on the occasion of the flag off of this year’s Abia Women August Delegate Conference, AWADEC held in Umuahia and thanked women across the 17 LGAs of the state for giving him total support during the past election, noting that without them he would not become the Governor.
Otti said he has started reciprocating the gesture by giving women in the state serious appointments, noting that key areas like agriculture, education, health among others are being manned by women.

In his speech, the Senator representing Abia Central, Senator Darlington Nwokocha thanked the wife of the Governor for organizing this year’s women’s August meeting and expressed his hope that important decisions that will impact positively on women will be arrived at.
He described women as a positive force in society and assured them that things are changing for the better in Abia State. Senator Nwokocha assured that members of the National Assembly will work collaboratively with the Governor to achieve set goals, stressing that there will be nothing like Abuja and Abia politicians.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Mrs Ngozi Felix who said the theme of this year’s event is “Abia Women: Dare to Dream” noted that the August Delegates’ Conference is gradually becoming a movement for women’s welfare and active participation in governance, adding that the platform recognizes the value for gender equality, women empowerment, and response to gender-based violence and potentials that lies within every individual woman.
The event featured lectures, empowerment, cultural display and was attended by women from across the State.
