Residents of Okpoko, Obosi, Atani, Oba, and their environs can finally breathe a sigh of relief as the Ogbaru Division of the Anambra State Police Command successfully smashed a notorious armed robbery gang that had been terrorising them for several months.
Mr. Tochukwu Ikenga, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), acknowledged the vital role played by the community vigilante groups in the area, stating that the successful accomplishment was a result of their cooperation with the police.
The individual identified as Jekwu, the gang’s leader, was previously apprehended on July 11, 2023, as verified by his statement
As part of the interrogation process, Jekwu shared valuable leads that led to the initiation of surveillance on the remaining gang members. This ultimately led to the arrest of another member while trying to evacuate the gang’s arms from Jekwu’s hideout.
According to Ikenga, the authorities successfully recovered one pump-action semi-automatic gun and two locally made pistols. Additionally, the second gang member was apprehended and taken into custody.
Furthermore, after conducting further interrogation, it was revealed that the gang was involved in the theft of five tricycles. These stolen tricycles were recovered, and their registration numbers were identified as NSH 156 VU, NNE 622 UW, NSH 203 VU, UKP 349 UV, and UML 359 WV.
Commending the vigilante groups for their partnership in ensuring the safety of Anambra State residents, the State Commissioner of Police, Aderemi Adeoye, encouraged the rightful owners of the recovered tricycles to step forward with valid proof of ownership to claim their property.
