Why I Am Desperate To Build A Liveable Homeland – Soludo

Listen to article

The Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo has asserted that he is desperate to secure a place where Igbo people can live and carry on their business in comfort when they are threatened in parts of the country or the world.

He made this known through the Anambra state Commissioner of Works and Infrastructure, Engineer Ifeanyi Okoma.

Okoma said, ‘This is because, over time the economy of Igboland could not contain them, thereby forcing them as an itinerant tribe to live in other parts of the world.’

However, ‘There has been issues of displacement or people asking them to leave, and this gave rise to Governor Soludo embarking on building an economically viable Homeland that can sustain the economy of Igboman anywhere’.

Okoma told reporters on Thursday that these were the reasons why the government is embarking on infrastructural development which is an enabler because that is not the main focus of Governor Soludo policy initiative.

Okoma said: ‘For us to achieve this we started infrastructural development which is an enabler because it was not our major programme. We are doing roads to make people interconnected and make them know they are one.’

He listed such strategic roads as: Amansea-Ufuma Road which reduced the journey to Ufoma from three hours to less than 45 minutes, Awba-Ofemili-Awka which will link Omasi with bridge to open the agricultural belt and “create new axis of wealth”, and the Aguleri- Nzam road which will link Anambra to Kogi State.

Okoma said: ‘We want to create a new ecosystem, create new avenue of the economy  that is Nzam to Kogi so that instead of going to Kogi from Enugu and to keep going round and round  you just go from here to Mmiata-Nzam and Lokoja in less than two hours and that connects the two people to know they are one.’

Other roads the government is to open up to link people are: Ezira- Umuomaku, and Atani-Ozubulu Road.

To create comfort for those who return home Okoma said, the government is building a Solution Four City in Awka that will contain a mini Gulf Course, waterfalls, Swimming Pool and the likes.

A signature project the government plans, according to him is the industrial city in Ogboji in Orumba South Local council which a lot of companies are already showing interest.
