Gunmen Raid Police Station, Weapons Looted In Enugu

In the wee hours of Tuesday, some yet-to-be-identified gunmen reportedly launched an assault on the Isi-Uzo Divisional police station in Ikem, Enugu State, doing away with firearms and ammunition.

Yesterday, in Isi-Uzo, a police station was subjected to an attack by unidentified individuals.

Reports state that the aggressors arrived in a Toyota Sienna bus, breached the unfenced premises, and vociferously demanded the release of Nnamdi Kanu. They chanted ‘Release Nnamdi Kanu,’ ‘No Nnamdi Kanu, no peace.’

‘They came through Eha-Amufu and left through the same axis but it’s not possible they got to Eha-Amufu township or crossed to Nkalagu, otherwise, they would have been encountered by the soldiers in that area. It’s possible they went through Aguamede to Benue State,’ the source said.

It has been ascertained from the gathered reports that the attackers shot one of the policemen on night duty at the police station. However, the officer’s injuries were non-lethal, and he is expected to recover.

For over a decade now, banks in the Ikem and Eha-Amufu neighborhoods have been shut down due to the relentless attacks carried out by armed robbers, who also targeted the divisional police station.

With no other police station present in Isi-Uzo LGA, the porous divisional police station serves as the only law enforcement facility. The next available station is situated at Obollo-Afor, a considerable distance of 30 kilometers.

The Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, remained unreachable as he failed to respond to calls and messages requesting confirmation of the incident.
