Mrs Mary-Maudline Nwifuru who is the wife of Ebonyi State Governor, has confirmed that no fewer than 20 Ebonyi girls trafficked to Anambra State for prostitution by suspected traffickers have been rescued.
Mrs Nwifuru also confirmed that the culprits have also been arrested.
She made the disclosure in Abakaliki on Monday, the state capital during the flag-off community sensitisation on the rights of Ebonyi children and the need to stop child trafficking in the State.
While pledging to defend and stand up for women, children, and girls, she claimed that her office had given roughly 15 women who had been subjected to various sorts of abuse by their husband’s financial empowerment.
She advised abusers against engaging in child trafficking and other types of abuse of women and children, describing them as crimes.
She said that girls, women, and children have all experienced significant abuse, and she can no longer wait to see them go through what they are going through at the hands of the abusers without the abusers receiving just compensation under the law.
In another report, the Enugu Police command has confirmed the arrest of one suspect connected to the murder of Hon. Duhu Nelson Sylvester Nnacheta, the Councilor representing Eha-Ulo Ehalumona Council Ward in Nsukka Local Government Area Legislative Council.
Nnacheta lost his life in a violent attack carried out by gunmen at his residence in Eha-Alumonah on Sunday night.
The Enugu State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, stated that they currently have a suspect in custody who is believed to be part of the gang responsible for the lawmaker’s assassination.
While specific information about the incident remains limited, a source from the community revealed that the attackers forcefully entered the lawmaker’s residence and shot him.
In addition, the source disclosed that the counselor, in a frantic effort to escape, sought safety in a neighbouring compound, where his lifeless body was eventually discovered.
