Listen to article

Pro Biafra group, Biafra Nations League (BNL), has given President Muhammadu Buhari-led Nigerian government fourteen days ultimatum to release the detained Nnamdi Kanu who is currently being held by the DSS.

The group, which currently has its operational base in Bakassi Peninsula in Cross River state, also lamented what it described as the high level of ill-treatment meted out to the Bakassi natives by the Cameroonian government.

Speaking with newsmen in Calabar at the weekend, the leader of the BNL, Princewill Chimezie Richard, said if the ultimatum is not met they may be forced to take laws into their hands.

The BNL leader also blamed the Nigerian government for its inability to protect the natives in Bakassi by allowing the Cameroonian government to impose high taxes on the people.

In view of the above issues, the BNL demanded for ‘the immediate release from detention of Nnamdi Kalu as ordered by the court within the next fourteen days as well as the immediate withdrawal of military troops in South East from now till fourteen days.

‘We call on the Cameroonian authorities to desist from forcing and collecting proliferated taxes from the natives of Bakassi Peninsula.

‘We also demand for the immediate withdrawal of Cameroon forces from the peninsular within the next fourteen days.’

He warned that ‘failure to meet these demands will result in the shutting down oil exploration between Nigeria and Cameroon at the maritime borders.

‘We shall also place a ban on vessels from entering our operational base to ensure that we stop the illicit exploration of oil in the region.

‘Any vessel that contests this ban shall be intercepted and confiscated’, he stated.

The Eastern Updates recalls that Kanu was arrested in June 2021 by the federal government of Nigeria in Kenya.
