Otti: Gowon Bows To Pressure, Drops Abia Prayer Rally

Former Military head of State, General Yakubu Gowon has finally bowed to pressure and suspended the Prayer Rally which was earlier put together to usher in the administration of Abia State governor-elect, Alex Otti.

Gowon, the founder of Nigeria Prays, had come under fire over his plan to visit Abia state on the ground of a Prayer Rally, scheduled for Sunday, the 23rd of April, 2023.

However, the coordinator of the Prayer Rally, Apostle Chuks Alozie during the weekend, said Gowon had suspended the programme due to criticisms.

According to Alozie, Gowon pointed out that he refused to be dragged into the murky waters of politics over a genuine call for prayers.

‘We will continue to pray and strive for the peace and unity of Nigeria, especially Abia State,’ Apostle Alozie quoted the General to have said.

Otti of the Labour Party won the March 18 governorship election in Abia after defeating his closest rival Okey Ahiwe of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Otti who is the governor-elect of Abia State has denied the viral reports making the rounds that he invited the former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon to the state for his inauguration.

The Eastern Updates reports that Otti had yesterday come under heavy social media attack by the members and supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who also whipped up sentiment about the role the former Head of State played in the death of late General Aguiyi Ironsi, a son of Abia.

According to some of the PDP members, Otti was being quite insensitive to the emotions and psychological well-being of Abians by bringing a man who according to them has not apologised to Abians and Ndigbo in particular over the role he (Gowon) played in the killing of Ironsi.
