I Never Invited Gowon For My Inauguration – Otti

Listen to article

Dr. Alex Otti who is the governor-elect of Abia State has denied the viral reports making the rounds that he invited the former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon to the state for his inauguration.

The Eastern Updates reports that Otti had yesterday come under heavy social media attack by the members and supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who also whipped up sentiment about the role the former Head of State played in the death of late General Aguiyi Ironsi, a son of Abia.

According to some of the PDP members, Otti was being quite insensitive to the emotions and psychological well-being of Abians by bringing a man who according to them has not apologised to Abians and Ndigbo in particular over the role he (Gowon) played in the killing of Ironsi.

Also, the leadership of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) had on Friday issued a statement issued through its Publicity Secretary, Comrade Emma Powerful warned Otti against any attempt to bring General Gowon (rtd) to the state.

Unconfirmed information has it that Apostle Chuks Alozie, Abia State Coordinator Nigeria Prays in a statement on Saturday said that the event had been put on hold indefinitely, citing unforeseen circumstances and challenges facing the group as part of the reasons the event was put on hold.

But Otti through his Media Adviser, Ferdinand Ekeoma has come out to debunk the narrative of the PDP members and IPOB publicity secretary, stressing that he (Otti) only got an invitation to a meeting being organised by a Christian body where according to the group’s programme, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu was listed as Chief Host and the Abia Governor-Elect, Dr. Alex Otti was to receive special prayers from the group.

Ferdinand Ekeoma in a statement issued on his Facebook page in response to the allegation that his principal was behind Gowon’s coming to the state wrote: ‘Since my Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu and the PDP governorship candidate, Chief Okey Ahaiwe were thoroughly defeated in the just concluded Senatorial and Governorship elections respectively, some of the governor’s appointees who didn’t believe that the duo of Ikpeazu and Ahaiwe could be defeated, have simply gone bananas.

‘It still looks like a bad dream that is about to end, unfortunately for them, it’s not a dream, it’s a reality that continues to gladden the hearts of millions of Abians who have lived in political servitude and undeserved slavery for over two decades now.

‘A day hardly passes without them churning out one infantile hogwash directed at the governor-elect, sadly, such puerile pieces of propaganda have continued to expose their emotional vulnerability and subject them to public ridicule.
