Some yet-to-be-identified gunmen invaded the secretariat of the Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State and set the High Court located on the premises ablaze yesterday.

A source, while narrating the incident to newsmen, disclosed that the gunmen invaded the secretariat around 11.30pm, adding that different sections of the court were razed by the fire.

The source said, ‘The Magistrate’s Court registry, record office of the Appeal Court, file room, office of the secretary to the judge of the high court, office of the high court’s bailiff, the chamber of the judge of the high court judge, were partly burnt. The whole of the block has cracked and no reasonable human being will go close to the facility.’

The Sole Administrator of the Oguta LGA, Ofili Ijioma, said that the case had been reported to security agents, adding that an investigation would unravel those behind the attack.

When contacted by The Eastern Updates, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Henry Okoye, said he was still awaiting information in the area.

The high court was burnt 10 days after the judge in charge of the Ejemekwuru Customary Court, Nnaemeka Ugboma, was reportedly murdered while presiding over a court session.
