Imo Politician Shot In The Leg By Unknown Gunmen

Some yet-to-be-identified gunmen last night shot the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogbaku ward, Charles Oke, in the Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State.

The Eastern Updates gathered Oke was shot around 8.59pm by gunmen who gained access to his house by jumping the fence of the building.

A source in the community, said ‘the PDP chairman was shot in his house by gunmen who were waiting for him in his compound.

‘He raised the alarm and tried running into his house but he was shot in one of his legs. The attackers scaled the fence and ran away immediately.’

In a bid to rescue Oke, newsmen gathered people rushed him to an undisclosed hospital where he had been undergoing treatment.

Speaking with our correspondent, another source in the community, the reason for the attack was yet to be ascertained.

“We thank God that our chairman survived the attack. Though one of his legs was shattered, we are happy that he is alive. Nobody knows the reason why a ward chairman of an opposition party could be attacked.

Contacted, the spokesperson for the PDP in the state, Collins Opuruozor, said that the party at the state level was on top of the situation and promised to brief the public soon.
