Anambra Police Nab Charm-Carrying POS Fraudster

Fresh reports reaching the desk of The Eastern Updates have revealed that the Anambra State Police Command has arrested and detained a member of a syndicate who specialises in using charms to defraud some Point of Sales operators in the state.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, Ikenga Tochukwu, who had made this disclosure had revealed this in a statement in Awka on Thursday, said the suspect, one Chisom Nweke, aged 26, a native of Umuawulu, Awka South Local Government Area, was arrested along Amawbia roundabout.

Ikenga said the suspect confessed to be using charms to defraud POS operators within Awka and its environs.

He said the arrest was made on the 15/9/2022, at about 9 am, adding that his other gang members were on the run. The police spokesman had also added that preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect cut plain white papers in size of money and gives to the POS operators for deposit.

Ikenga said efforts are in place to arrest his other gang members.

“Police operatives today 15/9/2022 at about 9am arrested one Chisom Nweke ‘M’ aged 26yrs of Umugwulu, Awka along Amawbia roundabout. He confessed to be using charms to defraud POS operators within Awka and its environs.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects cut plain white papers in size of money and give to the POS operator for deposit. Efforts are emplaced to arrest other gang members,” Ikenga added.

In another report, four individuals have been arrested by the Anambra State police command for operating an illegal private security guard company and possession of guns in Anambra State.

InThey had also been nabbed by some of the operatives of the state command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corp (NSCDC) on Tuesday, 6th of September, 2022, the state PRO of the corps, Edwin Okadigbo, said in a statement

He had identified the names of the suspects as Jubril Isah Samuel, Nzekwe Samson Kosi, Aneke Chidiebere and Egwuda David Ojochegbe. They also possessed two pump action shotguns, he said, adding that ‘they were arrested at various points in Awka following credible intelligence worked upon by the corps’.
